Cheap Thrills: Cookies from Albertsons

I have no problem admitting that I love a good cookie as much as I love a good deal, and that’s why one of my favorite cheap thrills (ie: treat under $2) is Albertsons cookies. Part of me feels like I should be keeping this my secret, because I’ve already found that by noon, the best flavor (double chocolate chip) is often sold out. But ultimately, these cookies are too delicious to keep to myself. Especially because you can get three of them for under $1.

Options include the standard chocolate chip, sugar cookie (with sprinkles), oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, reese’s pieces, white chocolate macadamia, and the tastiest of all, the aforementioned double chocolate chip (or should I say chocolate-chocolate-chocolate-chip because the cookies have a chocolate base, with two types of chocolate chunks?). No matter what you call them, these cookies have come to my aid too many times to count, and at 33 cents each, it’s virtually impossible to escape the grocery store without at least one.

Admittedly, there are some quality control issues. Some days, the cookies are a bit too crisp, but if you can get them when they’re at their finest (soft and chewy, with an almost brownie-like texture and loaded with chocolate chunks), there is no better way to make a trip to the grocery store more exciting. Usually, I can make it all the way home before digging in, but there are times I can barely make it out of the store before taking a bite.

There’s no denying that homemade cookies are great, but when I don’t feel like hauling out a bunch of ingredients and turning on the oven, 33 cents is a small price to pay for instant gratification.
